Two poems for this week’s challenge…

Lust and Denial
the
pain is
exquisite
so say lovers
who have felt its nip
the excruciating,
throbbing burn of raw desire
for the flesh is truly weak you know
it drives us mad if we ignore it
just a taste of honey’s enough
convincing our denial
consoled by pleasantries
gluttony and lies
avoiding pain
hurts us less
so we
think

Inked
sterile setting on acid
grunge rock slamming my
eardrums, drone of the
needle pulsing into
my exposed flesh
independence
personified in body art
the pain is exquisite
forever inked, I am
free, conventional
conformation be damned

(38 Words – Free Verse)
Both pieces are for MLMM or Mindlovemiseryโs Menagerie Sunday Writing Prompt: use the line: The pain is exquisite, with no alterations, but anywhere in your piece, AND โ however you choose to explore the topic of pain, you must include a counter-effect, balancing/opposite/silver lining, of some type, in your piece as well.

Most wonderful exploration of the prompt Kat! Well done and thanks for playing ๐
I really like the different directions you’ve written here – both the poetic form, which is wonderful, Reverse Double Standard Nonet – it works so beautifully – and the free verse. Interesting, although content/subject matter is different, it does speak, to me, in a circular way, of setting oneself free, in love, and how we understand or perhaps misunderstand love, and then consciously choosing to permanently write our stories on our bodies, and with our bodies too – hmmm…. which brings me back to the first poem.
All around, great job ๐

Thank you for spending so much time sharing your thoughts. Both topics share a common denominator besides the prompt itself…passion. And pain. While I didn’t necessarily intend it, as you have pointed out they do loop and intertwine. I really enjoy this weekly challenge. ๐

I’m glad it inspires you in some way Kat ๐
Actually, it was just an off-shoot tangent that came into my head after my first reading, and then I just read the pieces again, and thought, yes, in some, how interesting, – curious how words form images and ideas, and we, as readers, are left to also fill in certain aspects, filtered through our own understanding and appreciations, and yet, for differences in “topic” relationships and getting inked – there are threads or lines that can be woven together. Curious how the subconscious mind can wander sometimes. At any rate, I really enjoy reading your contributions ๐ Hope you have a wonderful week Kat ๐
