for there is inspiration to be found.
Don’t rush for cover
when a rumbling summer storm hovers.
Let your senses be filled with wild wind sounds,
skin tingling wet from the rain falling down,
Don’t rush for cover!kat ~ 24 August 2016
A Rondelet for Jane Dougherty’s Poetry Challenge this week. The prompt is Summer Storm. The Rondelet is a French form consisting of a single septet with two rhymes and one refrain:AbAabbA. The capital letters are the refrains, or repeats. The refrain is written in tetra-syllabic or dimeter and the other lines are twice as long – octasyllabic or tetrameter.

I like the sentiment in this one, and the urgency of the refrain.

Oh, I like this! It just swings along, makes me want to run outside and play in the rain.

OK but as long as there is no lightning or tornadoes, lol!

i’m being “literal”, R’n’t I? — as I KNOW your intent, but I think of the swift and immediate lightning-hurling torrential downpour stuff which hits us a few times a year …. RUN AWAY!

Of course! Though I do love storms! I once lived in a house with a west-east breezeway running between the main house and an apartment. I used to sit in the breezeway when one of those storms you describe approached, wind swept and soaked from sideways flowing rain. I might be a little crazy…but I loved it! 😀

I had a breezeway that was great for summer storms, as well. The best shows always seemed to be at night.

Yes! or at dusk! There was a huge pasture across the street from my house and mountains in the distance. I loved seeing the flashes in the distance and being hit first by the storm front, all blustery and wet! 🙂

A great refrain that spurs the rest on.

Thanks. The refrain is key. I love when it works.

Lovely!
Sometimes I love summer storms, and I love to watch them.
But we’ve had some scary ones where trees came down, and a tornado last summer (missed our town, but hit surrounding areas)–so now I do get anxious if they’re too fierce.

I do agree with you there Merril. It’s wise to take precautions when a tempest rolls in! 😊
