Forever Friends

They hadn’t seen each other in 50 years. Margie, a widow, had four children, twice as many grandchildren, and a great-grand on the way. Alma and her husband were never blessed with their own children, but she had devoted her life to teaching. She always said she was mother to hundreds. Tessa and her Stanley had a son. Margie and Alma, the entire country for that matter, knew John. He had pursued an acting career and had become a leading man in many feature films…a real heart throb. There was a lot of catching to do for these three best friends who’d once shared a flat while attending university.

When they saw each other for the first time in the plaza, they stopped in place, launched into their favorite song, a chart-topper, “You’ve lost the lovin’ feeling…oh oh that lovin’ feeling…” then giggled like school girls.  As you might suspect, their conversation picked up as if the years and distance had never separated them.

Wouldn’t you like to be a fly near that café table!

“It is. I would buck and winnie and cause a stir! She wouldn’t be putting no pink ribbons, or any ribbon for that matter, in my mane. That’s a fact!”

“Well then, how do you explain your braided tail last year?  Hmmmm?”

“That? Oh that was different. It was for the parade…”

“You know the parade is this weekend. I can’t wait to see what Sadie has planned for you! I promise I won’t laugh!”

Haiku – Finding Balance

Haiku – Finding Balance

Most health plans include
Eating a balanced diet…
chocolate optional.

To achieve balance
One must always choose between
The wants and the needs.

A powerful word,
If it is balance you seek,
Practice saying, “No.”

Haiku Cake/Wolf

Wolfcake

Haiku Cake/Wolf

Quite the ladies’ man
a lover of many…and none
for his callous heart.

He guzzled the drink
forgetting how cold it was,
brain-freeze karma sucks.

A wolf in disguise
must have a pallet for sweets
to boost the charade.

A Limerick for the Seasons

My friend Rashmi at MindandLifeMatters gave us the prompt “Seasons” for this week’s Limerick Challenge. I have to say I spent alot of time chewing on this one. I have no trouble waxing poetic on the topic of Seasons in free verse…or even Haiku, but when it came to crafting a proper limerick…it had me stumped. Here’s my best attempt. Have a great week everyone! If you would like to have a go at this challenge, click HERE. 🙂

A Limerick for the Seasons

Summertime sizzles and Autumn leaves fall,
Winter winds chill and Spring blooms enthrall,
Each season in order,
A year drawn in quarters,
Nature’s perfection inspires us all!
