Happy Thursday! And another installment of Echoes of my Neighborhood in response to the challenge from my friend Jacqueline of the blog, a cooking pot and twisted tales.
I have worked in Admin for my entire career (decades…though I won’t mention how many!) and for the most part my working space has been located in a dark corner cubicle…or in an office with no windows. During the winter seasons it was not uncommon for me to spend an entire day never seeing sunlight, because I would leave before sunrise and return home after sunset. I have always packed my lunch as well, so I would often eat in front of my computer screen while catching up on emails or the news of the day.
So you can imagine my delight to now have a window seat of the Blue Ridge Mountains each day. My current office setting is still a cubicle (in that I am partitioned from other staff members by temporary walls), but an entire WALL of glass flanks my left! Floor to ceiling windows! I love, love, love my new digs! (well actually not new, new…been here for almost 4 years now). It doesn’t matter to me if the sun is shining or if it is raining or snowing. I don’t even care anymore that in the winter I still leave at dawn and return home after dusk. At any time during the day I can glance to my left and see that there is a beautiful world out there with trees and clouds and a sky. It has made a huge difference in my life resulting in less stress. I suppose after decades of dedicated pecking at keyboards and answering phones I have earned this esteemed spot. 🙂 At any rate, I am quite happy in my little corner of the world and happy too, to share it with you! 🙂

Beautiful! I’ve long been drawn to mountains. Maybe I’ll have some in my backyard on our next move.

Wow, the Blue Ridge Mountains! I can only dream of mountains. Norfolk in England is flat and I’m lucky if I encounter a small hill! I can’t wait to see more.

Yes it does! After reading your first story with the small window with bars, I know you understand! 😊

When I read this I thought of it! One window in each room, brown plastic so no seeing out, but it was up high for some reason so you couldn’t see out anyway. bars on windows etc. not being able to see out is depressing! Glad you have that lovely view missxxx

They are wonderful. It can get a little warm in the summer but I have a fan at my desk for those days. It’s so worth it to have sunlight! 😊

Nothing like a view to look forward to. I can imagine you sitting back, sipping something warm and just soaking in the beautiful view. Actually very inspiring for someone who loves to spin a good yarn.

You have me pegged Jacqueline! I stay very busy at work but when I do pause, I have a cup of jasmine tea with a bit of honey and I soak in the view! However brief it may be, it always energizes me! 🙂

Beautiful view Kat! Like you, I worked in Administration and was stuck behind walls without windows. I would begin work before dawn and leave work at dusk. At that time, I was a smoker so I did get to take breaks outside to have a smoke. That saved my sanity. LOL!

I really should try to get out at lunch time, but I only get 30 minutes and by the time I get to my car (5 minutes), drive to whatever fast food joint I’m craving, and return, I’ve pretty much used my break. Outside then ended up being a ride inside the car. And I’d much rather catch up on blog posts and read a bit while I’m taking a break…so I do appreciate my windows at this job! 🙂

I hear you! We only had 30 minutes for lunch too and the company I worked for was 15 miles outside of town so there were no fast food (or any food places) close by. I use to take my lunch outside to the picnic tables and eat. (I didn’t have windows in my “office.”) So you are very fortunate to have windows!

They don’t have picnic tables except in a paved area at my office. They don’t want people throwing trash in the lawns…so if you eat outside most people sit in their cars!!!!

Our picnic tables were on this concrete balcony on the second floor of the administrative building. Of course, we could only use them during nice weather.

What a gorgeous picture. I lived in airless, windowless cubeland for many decades. Mother Earth rejuvenated me many times, too, even though I had to get up and walk to see her. Keep on keepin’ on, and remember, any office,no matter how pricey its digs, is only as organized, efficient and welcoming as its admin woman (or man). Enjoy the view!

Thanks! Yes…after years in the role of unsung admin heroine, I do remember this and am less shy about reminding others as well! 🙂

HaHa! Even with a view like this, I sometimes go hours with my nose so buried in my computer screen that I don’t even notice it! That is sad!
