Forever Listening – Stag & Noise – Haiku Challenge #63

In response to Ronovan’s Haiku Challenge #63…”Stag” & “Noise”.  This one was quite a challenge, but it got the old brain clicking, which is a good thing on a rainy Monday morning!  So…here’s my take…Poor deer. 😦

Ears perked toward the noise,
the stag became a statue
on some hunter’s wall.

Shibboleth…Friday’s Haiku Challenge

An interesting word, Shibboleth. I really had to do my homework on this one! The abridged definition in Dictionary.com’s Word of the Day graphic was slightly vague in scope and I wanted to be sure I captured the full flavor of this colorful word. I hope I’ve done it justice. Here’s an expanded definition and my take.

Expanded Definition: Shibboleth
: an old idea, opinion, or saying that is commonly believed and repeated but that may be seen as old-fashioned or untrue
: a word or way of speaking or behaving which shows that a person belongs to a particular group.

Shibboleth…a Haiku

“Can you hear me now?”
It’s a useless shibboleth.
No one is list’ning
.

As the venom spread
his skin flushed hot with fever…
start the antidote!

Summer’s late blooming,
yellow roses warm the heart
bitter frost looms nigh.
