They gathered to watch the funeral procession high above the bustling street. Whispered conversations on politics, movies, and recipes filled the space scored by piped-in ambient soft Rock. They gathered to watch the funeral procession for someone already forgotten.

Thank you! With the recent loss of former First Lady Nancy Reagan I imagine this scene to be played out in real life. Those attending the spectacle who use her funeral as a social event. 😕

‘Social event’…that’s really accurate! I’ve seen people at funerals (when they gather at the house later on) with attire and mannerism that the place has no hint of mourning (at least a little bit) but like any other luncheon or dinner.

Ouch, the slight tweak to the first line does a lot of damage! Brilliant stuff again, Kat 🙂

Your piece is sad but truthful. I remember many funerals, people don’t often talk about the person passed on, but about other things, it’s about catching up with relatives and old friends. Yes, perhaps, they’ve already forgotten about the person, or perhaps, that person is at the forefront of their mind and they are attempting to forget they’ve passed on and will no longer be part of their lives. My thoughts. Nice lines.

Nice take on the photo, but sad. But, all too true most of the time!

Wonderful! After reading your story, they do look like they are lined up looking out the window.

Thanks PJ. It looked to me like they were seated at a bar that ran the length of the window.

Especially poignant with the high profile funeral of Nancy Regan today. Interesting take on the image 🙂

That was actually my inspiration when I saw the capital building in the distance. We make such spectacles of these state funerals…but for some it’s just entertainment.

Yes now I can see them as the glitterati – in it for themselves – not the one who has now gone and should be remembered – a brilliant take on the photo – lovely to met through the linky 🙂 Special Teaching at Pempi’s Palace
