He lifted his hand to his brow as if it might somehow block her words.

“I want a divorce. I’m moving the kids to the coast this weekend so we’re settled before school starts. Please stay away from the house until we’re gone.”

She picked the most public place to tell him. But he couldn’t blame her. He was running out of promises and apologies. “I’m sorry” was not enough to bridge the breach of trust from his last outburst, and he knew it.

He also finally admitted that he needed help. One day he would thank her for leaving.
