Crazy for Love – Monday’s Finish the Story – 21Sep2015

In response to Monday’s Finish the Story Weekly Prompt.  This story begins with the line, “She lived in a mango tree.”  Thanks to Barbara W. Beacham for the photo inspiration this week.

She lived in a mango tree. Some say she was as crazy as the cuckoo birds swirling around her long gray locks of hair. For forty years she had lived there. A tragedy of love, unrequited.

From the moment she saw him she knew he was her soul mate. But how would she capture his heart?

One day she followed him home…a simple house, set among a grove of mango trees. She conjured a brilliant plan. She would hide herself on the full moon and when he passed by she would sing sweetly from above (she was known for her beautiful voice). He would succumb instantly and they would be forever lovers.

As night fell, he arrived with maiden. She watched as they kissed, professing their love. She never sang that night or ever again, and vowed never to leave. She never did. He was her soul mate.

Forever Listening – Stag & Noise – Haiku Challenge #63

In response to Ronovan’s Haiku Challenge #63…”Stag” & “Noise”.  This one was quite a challenge, but it got the old brain clicking, which is a good thing on a rainy Monday morning!  So…here’s my take…Poor deer. 😦

Ears perked toward the noise,
the stag became a statue
on some hunter’s wall.

Sunday Week in Review -20 September 2015

IMG_3195
‘Twas a rousing week of colorful fiction, vexing rants and irony. True to form, for this weekly exercise I present a line from each post that grabbed my attention, in retrospect. Though the captured verses are not necessarily meant to make sense from one line to the next, it is an uncanny surprise when they do!
Onward then, to next week. The sun is shining brilliantly today. I consider that a very good omen indeed!

Week of September 14th
Thanks for applying. We’ll call you.
his skin flushed hot with fever…
She decided to have a bit of fun with what little time she had left.
“Be right back. Cut the deck three times. Sugar?”
before you get us both in a heap of trouble
Sometimes the truth is not pretty.
No one is list’ning.
Kindly keep all rational thoughts to yourself,
we’ve sold our souls and cannot see how in the dark we are.

In Darkness

cropped-cropped-unnamed.png
We are a generation born
into a world of artificial
light, of neon gas, fluorescent
tubes and bulbous globes of amber
hue. Our restless nights are
peppered by the glaring strobe of
LED’s. Some of us will never
see the dazzling, unobstructed
view of distant stars along the milky
way. We boast of our inventiveness
to cheat the limits of the day,
to toil instead from dawn to murky
dusk, through nights that glow in
eerie candescence, oblivious,
we’ve sold our souls and cannot
see how in the dark we are.
