A new form created by Jane Dougherty called the Hourglass. Here are the guidelines:
- The form: ten lines with a syllable count of 5.4.3.2.1.2.3.4.5.
- Remember to centre the poem to get the hourglass shape.
- Try making the word in the middle a pivotal word that sends the poem off in a different direction.

Very clever! And I agree with the sentiment too 🙂

Thanks! I tried to add that twist in the middle 🙂

Those little additions make the poem trickier to write, but I think it’s good discipline.

I love it, my dear. Have you ever tried iambic pentameter?

Not intentionally. 🙂

A tricky little bugger, to be sure. Used by Shakespeare and Milton. I tried my hand in my poem, ‘Paradise Forsaken’. Failed miserably, I’m sure.

I do tend to fall into a cadence when I write free-form poetry but I have never actually tried the iambic pentameter. I’ll have to put that on my bucket list. 🙂

Thanks PJ! I am hoping to get back to some flash fiction as soon as my patient at home is better. It’s been a busy week! I have hated missing your FFfAW prompt! 🙂
