They stared drowsily at each other, warming their hands on steaming cups of coffee.
Maddie smiled. “Did you see the sun this morning?”
“No. I missed it. Was it amazing?” John winked at his wife, chuckling. Everything was ‘amazing’ to Maddie. He loved that about her.
“You know what I mean…”
John knew. It was their first morning in Canada. Expats now. Two of the lucky ones who made it out before the military closed the borders. He noticed a tear rolling down Maddie’s cheek.
“You alright baby?”
“I’m fine, John. We’re gonna be okay. The sun rises here too.”

As you know, it’s a bit scary down here, south of the border.😳

Wonder what they escaped from ? To see a sunrise after turbulent times is comforting.

Truly there is comfort in the constancy of seasons and the passing of night into the dawn.

Canada does sound more wonderful week by week; esp this week. Not sure I want to be a citizen of Russian colonization.

You are telling me. Yesterday every republican in Congress vetoed a bill to protect our elections in November. I’m afraid of what will happen if Russia gets free reign to tamper with the outcome of our antiquated election system. This may become a reality! 😳😢😳

I’m hoping not. I am hoping that the people who voted him in are as dismayed as the rest of us…or something occurs sooner. I certainly know it would have in other cases.

I am finding that the people who voted for him that I know, generally do not follow the news or world events, and are oblivious to the consequences of their vote, and those that do, choose to exercise willful ignorance, trump being a means to an end, such as right-leaning Supreme Court justices, deregulation and tax cuts. Standards that they would most certainly apply to others are cast aside as long as they get what they want. I hope, like you, some of them will wake up, but those who do seem to be anomalies and not the norm. It’s not all trump, though. He is just a symptom of the ugly underbelly of humanity that has always been amongst us. His rise to power has given them permission to come out from the shadows. 😢

You’re right. I suppose at some level I realized that there was ugliness existing, but I never realized how deep it went. I don’t talk to the people I know who are/were Trump supporters about anything political, not anymore. I’m not good about not wearing my heart and my opinions on my sleeve so it’s best if I don’t go there. I do think that there were some who thought that someone “apolitical” would be a good choice. I hope they’ve realized that it’s not so. And, yes, there are those who are happy he’s making some regressive changes, which makes me despair.

I have adult children who will not speak to me (or let me see my grandchildren) because I got angry at them for supporting and continuing to support trump. Two of four of my kids. The other two came back around…also trump supporters…we just don’t talk politics. But I must admit, knowing that they are okay with this administration’s policies breaks my heart and will forever tinge our relationship. The last few years have been hell.

That is so unfortunate. I never remember politics causing rifts the way it does now.
I don’t speak politics with most of my family. We’re dysfunctional enough without that.

We don’t either oddly enough. They took offense to some postings I did expressing my anger that anyone could vote for trump, on social media…we put the fun in dysFUNctional. Not!

Postings I’ll add that were general…first they unfriended me…then they twisted the dagger and shut off all communication.

That is so harsh. I’m incredulous that family would let politics get in the way like that, although, now that I think about it my brother did something similar. 😦 I wonder if this happens in other cultures?
