well, they’ve all gone to seed,
their balding heads, puff freed,
far from dandy, indeed, blown to hell

Florescence Day 18 for Jane Dougherty’s Poem a Day Challenge. The dandelions are so pretty…until they are not. Beauty is fleeting, indeed. ๐

He wrote an almanac titled “Words at Play.” One etymological contortion for every day of the year. You’d love it. “The Mrs. kr. Mr.” is another classic, as is “Answering Yours of (Date Illegible)” Check it out if you can find it. There’s only one serious entry, somewhere in September, I think — titled “The Gentle Witch” — an actual letter from a condemned witch to her judges. Find it and cry.

Thank you Ana! I will look for the book. Sounds like it is definitely my kind of read! ๐

Thanks. When I was a girl we used to split those bare stalks into curls and wear them in our hair! ๐

Just think of each one of those fluffy little seeds will grow into another dandelion ๐ Don’t you get buttercups? They have taken over from the dandelions here. And they don’t go to hell either.

Of course you are right Jane. How could I curse the process. Though, I am not fond of all the bald, bobbing dandelion heads scattered about (not to excuse, but perhaps explain my gone to hell comment), with Creeping Charlie nipping at their roots. Eventually the Charlie will bloom, but sadly we don’t have buttercups in my neck of the woods. At the moment my yard is a hot mess. ๐

Thank you Jane…at least the dogwoods are beginning to bloom. The ground is a warzone. ๐

We have masses of dogwood too! The flowers haven’t opened yet, but they’re almost there.

Maybe we have different kinds of dogwood. I’m not sure ours is going to be particularly pretty. I’ll let you know when it flowers.
