About the challenge: Each Tuesday I will provide a photo prompt. Your mission, if you choose to accept the challenge, is to tell a story in 280 characters or less. When you write your tale, be sure to let me know in the comments with a link to your tale.
A final note: if you need help tracking the number of characters in your story, there is a nifty online tool that will count for you at charactercountonline.com.
I will do a roundup each Tuesday, along with providing a new prompt. And if for some reason I missed your entry in the Roundup, as I have occasionally done, please let me know. I want to be sure to include your tale.
Finally, have fun!
And REMEMBER…you have 280 characters (spaces and punctuation included), to tell your tale…and a week to do it. I can’t wait to see what you create this week.

Starting us off…
“What have we got?” Lt. Jones asked the trooper.
“Witness says this puddle here swallowed a truck.”
“Hmmm, well there are no tracks on the other side,” Jones stated as he stepped into the puddle and disappeared.
“Oh no! Jones!” The trooper called dispatch. “We’re gonna need backup.”
(280 Characters)
From D. Avery at ShiftnShake:
He backed away from the puddle. He hadn’t heard from his friends at the cabin since before the snow. He had an idea where they might be.
From Reena at ReInventions:
The message accompanying a snapshot of the road …
“I believe in the Devil now. The Fire of Hell burns beneath this road, and melts the snow. The size of the puddle increases gradually. I am terrified.”
My reply:
“Is it snowing in Sulfur Springs?”
(243 characters)
From Fandango at This, That, and the Other:
“Did you hear what happened to Alan on New Year’s Eve?” asked Jen.
“No, what?” inquired Mary.
“He got so drunk at Carol’s party that he drove his truck into a sinkhole that formed in the middle of the road.”
“Oh my God!” Mary gasped. “Is he okay?”
“He is, but his truck, not so much.”
(280 characters)
From Kathryn at Another Foodie Blogger:
Our quiet walk along the snowy forest road was suddenly interrupted by a mysterious bubbling sound coming from ahead. Imagine our surprise when an amphibious vehicle popped out of the ground and drove on past us, filled with revelers oblivious to their remarkable arrival.

From Di at Pensitivity101:
‘You don’t understand!’
The witness was getting quite agitated.
‘Nothing went IN, you fools. Something came out!’

From
Jan at
Strange Goings On in the Shed:
The group looked suspiciously at the pool.
It wasn’t what they imagined the Fountain of Youth to be.
The Tour Guide beckoned creepily, everyone paused and then
ran back to the bus.
He laughed, took off his clothes, then his skin.
“The effects are astounding as you can see”.
(273 characters)
From Willow at WillowDot21:
I had been driving ten hours straight and I was tired. I had to get home in time to see Rob.
My eyes heavy I started to doze I came to my senses as the car slew across the dark road and into a ditch narrowly avoiding the water-filled hole in the road.
We don’t need two deaths today

From Michael at Morpethroad:
It was an amazing experience. The pool was like a warm bath.
I slipped in and immediately felt its healing qualities.
I called to my friends who hesitantly removed their clothing and joined me.
The pool left us reinvigorated.
Marcy said I never looked so attractive.

“I’ll just explain again. You accelerate hard. Don’t worry about the bumps and bends, the bus will keep you safe. Now, this is the important bit. Once you get to 97mph the vehicle will disappear. You’ll still be in it though.”
“Any side effects?”
“You may wet yourself.”
“Thanks!”
(278 characters)
From Alice at Alice Muses:
“This is it?”
“This is it.”
“Are you sure this will work?”
“I have done it many times.”
“But…”
“Stop hesitating and toss it in! The portal doesn’t last forever and we still need to clean up the house.”
“Right. I left the knife in the sink. We need to get it before anyone finds it.”
(276 characters)
From Lorraine at Lorraine’s Frilly Freudian Slip: (be sure to follow the link to Lorraine’s Blog to see the Escher image that inspired this tale)
“This is it,” Lily exclaimed.
“There very one”, George whispered.
“What I’ve been hoping since you found that map hidden in Escher’s papers,” Lily murmured.
“The puddle of his inspiration,” George completing her thought.
Bowed their heads, held hands in silent reverence.

From Francine at Woman Walks Dog:
I-Spy
The Eye blinks and gazes up at the night sky. So this is Planet Earth where I was planted to spy. Forget what I’m studying. Aha it’s human attraction. Here comes a person I’ll wink at them and watch what they do. Will they wink back ?
From Radhika at Radhika’s Reflection:
Laying hands on an ancient map, the trio spent months decoding it. Finally they were just one step away from the hidden treasure. They had to drive into the pond that mysteriously appeared on the new moon night. A risk worth taking they decided. So into the pond they drove and …..

Wonderful start to the new year! I loved everyone’s take on this interesting photo. Some saw the fountain of youth, while others saw something a bit more sinister. It was all good fun!
For this week’s challenge, a photo of an empty chair with a backdrop by Eddie Garcia on Unsplash. I’m calling this “The Interview”. Your challenge is to pick a person to interview in your tale. If it is a famous person, try to include one of their famous quotes…and the fun part…fashion your question so that the quote is the answer. Now, I mentioned it could be a famous person…but it needn’t be. It could be a favorite teacher, friend or relative that gave you some sage advice. Whoever you choose, this is your opportunity to use dialog to tell your tale. Have fun! 2018 is turning out to be a fun and inspiring year. See you at the roundup!

An Interview with Mother Teresa
“How did you do it? How did you survive amidst so much suffering?”
She smiled, eyes twinkling, “Peace begins with a smile you know.”
In that moment peace washed over me.
She added, “I have found the paradox that if I love until it hurts, then there is no hurt, but only more love.”
