When mercury in retrograde descends
all manner of calamities ensue
before my final poem could be “penned”
I dropped my fragile iPhone in the loo!
It’s glaring at me now, it’s apple face,
perpetually glowing like a fool.
That bloody thing is buried now in rice
what peaceful thoughts I might have had are doomed.
Oh, woe is me, for I am out of sorts.
It almost makes me want to grab a pen
and scribble in a notebook just for sport…
it takes me back, you know, rememb’ring when.
Perhaps I should be thanking mercury
for making me endure this misery.
Without my phone intact I finally see
that I don’t need it to write poetry.
(but I do hope the rice works and my phone comes back to me)

Not the poem I had envisioned for my final poem this month-long challenge. I write most everything on my iphone…well, except this little rant. I suppose it’s a good way to end the month. Sometimes I take my poetry and my writing too seriously. This definitely put it into perspective for me. My head is full of words. I just need to scribble them down. That is the important thing. Thanks Jane Dougherty for this “Month with Yeats”.

Hope your rice therapy works.
I lost my Dell notebook at Incheon Airport today morning. So don’t think I will be writing any blog this month. Find WordPress mobile app not so user friendly for my four years old GALAXY S4.

Oh…I feel your pain. A moment of silence for you sadly departed notebook. We are so tethered to technology these days, aren’t we? I think the rice helped. I am guardedly hopeful I will be back up and running on all cylinders soon.

Arrived Guwahati, my home town and place of birth, today. Unfortunately my dear departed laptop was not found in lost and found of Incheon Airport. So I may be on a forced hiatus from blogging this month.

How bittersweet! I have done most of my writing on my phone which took an untimely plunge in the loo. So I have been forced to use alternative outlets to write. I am blaming Mercuries retrograde. You are the fourth person i know of to have had a technology issue in this past week! I do hope you are able to enjoy your time home. Have a lovely time!

Oh, poor phone! What an ignominious way to go! Hope it recovers. Maybe you should settle for a notebook when you’re being creative in the bathroom 🙂

It was in my back pocket. I wasn’t even planning to do any writing with it or look at it for that matter. Just the unfortunate victim of a series of events.

Alas my poor phone gave one last burst of life before completely going black. I almost thought we had won the batter, but now i must face the music and expense of replacing it. 😦

Haha. I wondered if anyone would catch that. 😉 My phone came back just long enough to taunt me for my clumsiness. It officially died yesterday. I learned that one does not just present a dead phone to the phone store and happily receive another. To add misery to shame I had to navigate the insurance bureaucracy only to discover I couldn’t remember the secret code number for my phone service account (back to said company to prove I am who I say I am to get a new code) then back to the insurance company who assured me for a hefty deductible I would receive a replacement clone in 2 business days. It’s the weekend of course, so it will be 4 days in real time if i’m lucky. Meanwhile I will be scratching out what i can on my aged, ailing tablet with a cracked screen that demands to be tethered to the wall outlet because it refuses to hold a charge…but enough about my tragedy…😄… are you sorry you asked?! 😜

Neat piece and I Agree though we become used to writing poetry on iPhones etc.paper works well too, sometimes I find it better if I’m actually trying to be fancy and make something “iambic” or some other meter.
Your story also made me think of my Dad who while on business in China, dropped is phone in salt seawater and even the rice could not save it. He was without his phone for about half hia month long trip but was luckily able to save the little card from the phone to eventually put into a loner phone a friend had from Canada.
He had his iPad though so was able to maintain contact and appointments with clients etc.

I am back up and blogging. Fortunately I ha insurance. By next morning I had a replacement. But for 24 hours I realized how tethered I am to technology. It felt very weird.

Haha I think most people feel that, a kind of withdrawal. My Dad mentioned the same thing. I had to go in hospital a few years back and I couldn’t have my phone until 4:00 pm each day and we had to take the phone outside the unit as it can disrupt the technology there I guess.
But the first few days were rough lol. Yes, those insurance plans are great. Dad didn’t think about taking his insurance document from the phone with him to China. The phone was on its last legs and he probably should have replaced it before his trip. I think that’s why the rice didn’t work. Lol.
My aim is to have your interview up this week. I’m taking some time off freelancing to relax and do some of things I very much like to do but haven’t been able to do much of 🙂
