Life Music
Before fiction, flash and poetry, before this blog, I wrote songs. Or maybe it’s more accurate to say, I heard songs in my head and had the good sense to write them down.
Pages and pages of rhyming words set to melodies filled my head; a gift from the universe, I had supposed, that sustained me during some of the hardest times of my life: poverty, domestic abuse, isolation. I was a troubadour then, performing for my supper, more often than not, in living rooms, nursing homes, hospital rooms and meeting halls.
I never truly considered them “my songs” because they seemed to come from somewhere outside of myself. In retrospect I realize that they were every bit me. My hopes, my dreams, my longings, wrapped mellifluously in simplicity to help me express what I was feeling, how things were and how they could be.
I still make music, but somewhere along the way I stopped singing the words. These days I hum, and that suits me just fine. The earth, the trees, the wind, the sea; they all hum. I’m content in knowing that I am in good company.
sometimes the words come
like an old friend, familiar,
they meant something once
more than a sweet melody
desire set to music
what a gift they were
those streams of consciousness
these days I just hum

If there was a love button (Please WP DO NOT go that way!) I would press that, rather than just like.
What a great personal entry for this challenge.
Did you ever record any of your songs? Is there such a thing as The Kat Songbook?

I did record them Peter. Though I’ve only a few cd’s left. Gave most of them away. Gospel genre wit a Celtic flair. Thinking of figuring out how to upload the music. You’ll be the first to know.

Loads of apps to help with that, lots of free downloads too. Google will help.

It sounds tough Kat. Don’t you think it strange, when you had the problems, you had the words for them. And now, is it no problems, no words? I hope not.

No…with age and wisdom comes understanding and a synchronicity with one’s surroundings. Not sad or tough at all. Liberation. 😉

I have. Yours is the third request. I suppose I should try to figure out the technology and just do it. 😉 To think, when I started this blog two years ago I was so nervous for anyone see it.

Kat, it’s a privilege to hear more about your backstory. The rhythm of words has pulsed in your veins from the beginning, finding diverse changing mediums and channels to flow through along the way.
I love your poetic voice and want to add my vote in clamouring to hear your songs as well. It’s been quite a journey for you by the sound of things. But I, among many, am glad you found your brave again and have shared exquisitely woven poetry here on this blog. Your fans have spoken! May you take encouragement by seeing how well received you are, my friend. xo 😊💜

I really enjoyed reading this. It was good to hear of the birth of a song. It’s something I wondered about recently. Also, in preparing my post for this prompt I was searching my mind for the word ‘mellifluously’ and here it was on your post;) Dots in the universe is what I call them:) Again, a very lovely post.

If your hum is as sweet as
Nature’s, and its feelings,
The world is waiting!
