Vessels brimming, fragrant with tradition
Like daughters before
They’ll journey from the safety of the shore
So to learn to trust their intuition,
Shattering patriarchal restrictions,
Like daughters before.

For Jane Dougherty’s poetry prompt, “Journey”, inspired by this painting, a Rondelet.
The Rondelet is a French form consisting of a single septet with two rhymes and one refrain:AbAabbA. The capital letters are the refrains, or repeats. The refrain is written in tetra-syllabic or dimeter and the other lines are twice as long – octasyllabic or tetrameter.

Oh HA, I thought the prompt was the word Journey, is that the name of the painting? Silly me. 🙂

It was a double prompt. Painting and one word. Jane was easy on us this week. Usually it’s a painting and FIVE words! 😜

Lovely poem. I like the idea of women setting sail into the unknown.

Me too Sarah. Methinks that is the reason we’re all equipped with the amazing gift of intuition! It is our legacy and destiny. 😊
